# Welcome to the Grey Market

## The World's First Digital Content Wholesaler

The Grey Market makes it possible for anyone to own and operate their own webstore selling crowdsourced digital content. Content is uploaded to the Interplanetary File System and stored under encryption - the keys needed to unlock the content are embedded in the NFT's metadata.

## More Than Just JPEGs

Because the value of the items we sell isn't dependent on their rarity, creators can leverage NFT technology to monetize types of content that, until now, haven't found a foothold in the NFT space. At launch, the Grey Market plans to focus mainly on written and recorded media - things like e-books, audiobooks, comics, newsletters, digital magazines, and podcasts. In time, we hope to expand to include music, movies, TV shows, software, video games, and phygital items.

## A Truly Decentralized Economy

Our retail experience is unlike anything that's existed in the NFT space until now. Unlike other NFT marketplaces, which only allow you to sell items that you, yourself, already own, the Grey Market makes it possible for anyone to open a store selling anyone else's items. Stock your shelves with whatever items you like, apply a markup, and advertise your offerings to your customers - it's all completely permissionless, and there's no up front cost to the retailer beyond the gas fees required to create the contracts.
